A Promise to the Readers

I've made a decision; I'm going to have to post more non-writing pieces. I haven't done much lately, since I have a temporary job that I legally have to stay quiet about. I can't go into the details of Census work, and that's about all I have to say about that. Unfortunately, it's a standard blog trope to fuss about one's workplace, and I can't do that - though, if I could, there are 50,000 words I could easily do.

Furthermore, I always want to give the readers a little something-something for their time and effort for coming here. It annoys me to go to someone else's blog and find a line: "Wow, it was raining today. I don't feel like writing." I hate that. I want to say something, even if it is pointless and/or meaningless to anyone but me.

I've got so I Tweet my short lines, and I haven't had time - or the legal freedom - to put out the longer pieces. Add to that the fact that I've been doing a lot of writing and rewriting, and hopefully you'll understand why there has been a bunch of new fiction. But, I'm sorry to say, there's not been much...you know...blogwork.

This is on me; I own the problem. I promise to try to do better. Yes, that's the Bart Simpson hedge, but it's all I got right now. I promise to try to do better. Don't expect that this will become a daily post. The very thought makes me laugh - pshaw. No, it won't be that, but I'll try to post some random-like thoughts a few times a week.

But listen! If you've got any suggestions, let me know, dammit! I like hearing from y'all, and I like knowing that lots of you are reading - even if I don't know you and don't even know who you are. Log in, leave a comment here if you want. Introduce yourselves around; there's good folks here.

The biggest problem is that lazy son-of-a-gun writing these things, and I hear tell he promises to try to do a better job.

  1. Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, we have times where we aren't updating as much. And that's fine. Doesn't mean we're not still creative and working in other ways, just not blogging as much. I'm in the same boat. And I agree with you on being irritated when someone says: "I don't feel like writing." Or even writers block. I'm of the opinion that if you're having a hard time writing for a certain task, try writing exercises or free writing or found poetry or something! Not writing is the worst thing you can do.

    But I'm meandering.

Short little blog updates. Small thoughts. Happenings. These inspire those readers who want a snippet of something to catch. I think it'll broaden readership. Try it all.

    Looking forward to it.

  2. Thank you, Alice! As one of my favorite bloggers out there, your opinion matters much to me. Yep, it was the writing and rewriting keeping me busy, but I still feel like I was letting folks here down a bit.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's had the problem. I don't see how Rebecca has been able to do the 30-day challenge (30 days, 30 blog entries). That's just completely beyond me.

  3. Bah, if you had an interest in doing the 30-day challenge, you'd do it. And rock it.

  4. I've now blogged for 42 days and honestly, at first it was awful, but I don't believe I ever resorted to writing about the weather or not writing and if I did, I snuck it in there in my own personal brand of bullshit.
Now, it's become a morning habit and it's easy to hit that publish button and roll right over to my work in progress writing. At this point in time, I consider my daily blogging as a warm up for whatever I'm set to accomplish for the day.
I think I'm going to wait until this weekend to read the chapters. As much as I have been waiting (did I mention WAITING?) for these, my brain is so muddled right now I don't think I could do right by you in way of opinion and feedback.

  5. With my current Census job running all kinds of weird hours, I haven't been able to do that. There's been a few days when I (honestly) haven't had time to flip the laptop open. Many days when I had time, I didn't have the brainpower left to compose anything - or if I did, it was to work on one of the Heroes chapters, or one of the other WIP.

I'll leave the 30-day Challenge to you. No way can I do what you did, and are doing.

But if you keep fussing about waiting, young lady, I'm not going to let you know when Chapter 5 - "Harbordown By Day" arrives. Then you'll just have to watch for me pimping it out on Twitter.
